Richard’s Story: A Life of Adventure

My name is Richard, and I live in the UK. I was born in Wales but now live in England near a beautiful part of the sea on the south coast. I have SA/CRS and walk part time with crutches and use a wheelchair part time.

Growing up and going through surgeries and other challenges I think has made me a stronger person. I love life and have a positive attitude. I am quite an adventurer, and there are some activities I have tried that keep life interesting and that keep me out of trouble! I have piloted airplanes and gliders, gone powerboating, experienced indoor skydiving, and done all kinds of target shooting with different kinds of guns.

For my next stunt, I’d like to try “the bike experience” where they basically strap you onto a big powerful motorbike whilst holding you up. Then they kind of run alongside till you have the speed up. Once you have the speed, they let you go and you drive around this big racetrack on an old RAF airfield. When you’re ready to finish, they kind of catch you.

I also intend to try wheelchair basketball and maybe wheelchair rugby in the future. As you can see, I’m always up for something new. As a profession, I worked in aviation repair for some time and also have owned my own business. I clean and tune up air rifles. Here’s a photo of me enjoying the local beach.
