The doctor in the NICU told us that our son had caudal regression syndrome after delivery. Doctors explained there were several complications with that. They told us that our son would possibly have incontinence of bladder and bowel as well as kidney problems. He also told us that our son would probably never walk or have any use of his lower extremities. They didn’t have much information on the condition, as it isn’t very common.
As of right now, our son is doing well. The predictions that were made about our son at birth have not come true. At the time they shared information with us, our child’s situation sounded horrible. It seemed as if our son’s life was doomed to be hopeless and dull. I guess the doctors were trying to prepare us for the worst, but I really wish they would have told us that not all cases are the same and that he still can have a normal, fulfilling life because he proves that to us every day. Our little man is a fighter!!!!
