Brief Information on SA/CRS
Sacral agenesis, also called by several other names such as “caudal regression syndrome,” is a birth condition in which the lower portion of the spine does not form. The absence of the lower spine may be minimal, involving only a small portion of the sacrum, or extensive, involving the entire sacral and lumbar and part of the thoracic spine. The condition is rare and impacts each individual differently. For some, there are few outward signs, but there may be some issues with bladder or bowel control if nerves in the area of the lower spine are absent. It may result in orthopedic issues, including fixed knee joints, paralysis of the legs, and small legs. Regardless of the way in which this condition impacts individuals, those with SA/CRS can lead fulfilling lives.
